Conceiving a new collection for Rubelli is not an
easy task, nor is it to inscribe Rubelli products into a
yearly collection logic. There are quite a few reasons
for that: Rubelli’s products are precious, meticu-
lously handcrafted, and its heritage is so strong that
it is inherently timeless. Timeless by nature and
design.
From these premises stems GArdenS. The collection
focuses on one of the most archetypal, era-spawning
themes of textiles: the botanical theme.
GArdenS as a theme can easily be metaphorical.
As gardens are small ecosystems of different ele-
ments coexisting and completing each other, Rubelli
products form a vibrant, meticulously cultivated
landscape. Gardens host herbs for medicine, vegeta-
bles for food, symbolic plants, or beautiful decorative
flowers. Sometimes plants are even secondary in a
garden: think of a Japanese dry garden. The collec-
tion follows the same pattern of multiplicity.
GArdenS has in fact a double spirit in terms of
application and approach: indoor and outdoor/high
performance. The home collection brings the garden
into the house through the extensive use of bright,
fresh colours and figurative decorations coming from
different eras. The outdoor/high performance part
follows a reverse process. It explores the abstract,
geometric side of a garden, in elegant and subtle
tones. The textures here are the protagonists.
GArdenS explores botanical themes ranging in time
and scale.
It’s a bouquet of decorative patterns, as you expect
from Rubelli, but also of textures and especially of
colours.
Colours are arguably the most significant aspect of
the collection. They come from melons, pistachios,
lemons, orchids. They are bright and shiny and fresh,
a verdant landscape. They intuitively adapt to the
different textiles giving uniformity to the collection.
When applied to plain or semiplain textiles, they
emotionally resonate as big patches of colours found
in blooming fields. The decorative apparatus easily
combines tone on tone.
The textures are equally inspired by the chatoyant
patterns found on large tree trunks, as well as by the
traces left by rain droplets in the fresh loam. Silks
undergo mechanical and artisanal processes that
reveal organic, unique movements in the textiles.
They become alive: they reflect the light in unex-
pected ways, almost following the seasons changing.
GArdenS is conceived to highlight Rubelli’s qual-
ity staples: the richness of decorative motifs, the
outstanding quality of silk, the depth and care of
colours, and the eclectic approach to techniques.
Eclecticism is also evident in the application of
textiles. The products in the following pages are
extraordinary and daily, sophisticated and technical.
Rubelli’s beauty lies in the quality of craftsmanship
applied both to a delicate, diaphanous veil as well as
to a technical textile that can withstand heavy use.
GArdenS is as much about technique as imagination,
and ultimately passion: an attempt at timelessness.

Creare una nuova collezione per Rubelli non è compito
facile, così come non lo è collocare i prodotti Rubelli
in una logica di collezioni annuali. Non lo è per varie
ragioni: i prodotti Rubelli sono preziosi, realizzati con
una cura artigianale meticolosa, e l’eredità culturale è
tale da essere intrinsecamente senza tempo.
Senza tempo per natura e per design.
Da queste premesse nasce GARDENS. La collezione si
concentra su uno dei temi più archetipici e senza tempo
del mondo dei tessuti: il tema botanico.
Indubbiamente GARDENS può essere un tema
metaforico.
Come i giardini sono piccoli ecosistemi di elementi diversi
che coesistono e si completano a vicenda, così i prodotti
Rubelli formano un paesaggio pieno di vita e curato
in modo meticoloso. I giardini possono ospitare erbe
medicinali, ortaggi, piante simboliche o bellissimi fiori
decorativi. In un giardino le piante possono essere perfino
marginali: basti pensare ai giardini zen giapponesi. La
collezione segue lo stesso modello di varietà.
GARDENS ha infatti un doppio spirito in termini di
utilizzo e approccio: casa ed esterno/alte prestazioni.
La collezione casa porta il giardino in casa grazie
all’ampio uso di colori freschi e vivaci, e di decorazioni
figurative di diverse epoche.
La collezione esterno/alte prestazioni segue un processo
inverso. Esplora l’aspetto astratto e geometrico del giar-
dino con toni eleganti e delicati. Protagoniste, qui, sono le
trame.
GARDENS prende in considerazione i temi botanici
spaziando nelle epoche e nelle dimensioni.
È un bouquet di motivi decorativi, come ci si aspetta da
Rubelli, ma anche di texture e soprattutto di colori.
I colori sono verosimilmente l’aspetto centrale della
collezione. Sono i colori dei meloni, dei pistacchi, dei
limoni, delle orchidee. Sono luminosi, brillanti e freschi,
un paesaggio lussureggiante. Si adattano istintivamente
ai diversi tessuti per dare uniformità alla collezione.
Quando utilizzati nei tessuti uniti o falsi-uniti, emozio-
nano come le grandi campiture di colore dei campi in
fiore. L’impianto decorativo è un’elegante combinazione
tono su tono.
I tessuti materici si ispirano ai motivi cangianti che si
possono trovare sui grandi tronchi, così come alle tracce
lasciate sul terriccio fresco dalle gocce di pioggia. Le sete
sono lavorate con processi meccanici e artigianali che
svelano nei tessuti movimenti organici e unici: prendono
vita, riflettono la luce in modi inattesi, quasi seguendo il
mutare delle stagioni.
GARDENS è concepito per mettere in evidenza i punti
di forza qualitativi di Rubelli: la ricchezza dei motivi
decorativi, l’eccezionale qualità della seta, la profondità e
la cura dei colori, e l’approccio eclettico alle tecniche.
L’eclettismo è evidente anche nell’uso dei tessuti. I
prodotti delle pagine seguenti riescono ad essere con-
temporaneamente straordinari e quotidiani, sofisticati
e tecnici. La bellezza di Rubelli risiede nella maestria
del lavoro artigianale riconoscibile sia nel velo leggero,
delicato e trasparente, sia nel tessuto tecnico, pensato per
resistere ad un uso intenso.
GARDENS è tanto tecnica quanto immaginazione
e, in definitiva, passione: un tentativo di raggiungere
l’atemporalità.
