Case history | 2BE
Enrico Corelli, tells his experience about working with Quattrobi on the making of 2BE, a special
product designed by him.
How did the 2BE project start?
2BE, or TUBE, has started since the request of a client to study a flexible and modular system on
an object with “industrial” flavour. As often in objects that I design, simple lines and the attention
on material and finishing have a key role on the definition of the object. I wanted to reinterpret
the watertight lamp, simplifying its shapes, using glass and aluminum to enrich it and taking care
of some details and accessories.
How was to work with Quattrobi?
Like it happened in the past, for the REWC and LITE projects, Quattrobi has been open and
cooperative to the highest level. The technical department has studied with me the engineering
of the device and it has carried all the necessary researches to identify the best contractors of the
single components.
The production has become available for the prototyping. We have worked on accessories
looking for the right compromise step by step.
These activities are possible just when there are right machineries for the fast making of a
prototype and also the full commitment by the Company.
The portability and the suspension features are surely the main elements of this product.
How did this idea come up?
The tripod is an object that wasn’t a client’s request, but an accessory that I wanted to become
a component.
Often it happens to desire to use portable lamps to light up our own garden, just in special events.
I wanted something portable, and easy to use so that 2BE could be taken off from the wall and
quickly put on this other component.
It had to be something reliable, and resistant, studied for any kind of ground: so the tripod has
born. The handle’s knurling makes the component comfortable and at the same time gives it an
old style appeal.
What is next? Tell us something.
We are developing new components and new accessories. We are exploring new finishing.
Working together with such a partner as Quattrobi means that research and development never
stop.
Enrico Corelli, designer born in Milan in 1973, in the last years has dedicated himself to the
development of PLH lighting control devices, drawing all the collections (ADI Index 2010 and 2013).
He also has been art director for catalogues and exhibition stands. Enrico Corelli designed also
REWC, LITE and 2BE for Quattrobi.
