Progettata alla fi ne del 1953, la DU 30
è sicuramente il pezzo più celebre
disegnato da Gastone Rinaldi.
Ad essa venne infatti attribuito,
nel 1954, il premio Compasso d’Oro,
allora Compasso d’Oro-Rinascente,
alla sua prima edizione. La giuria
comprendeva tra gli altri Gio Ponti,
Marco Zanuso e Alberto Rosselli.
La DU30 fu immediatamente brevettata
e comparve sulla copertina del primo
numero della rivista Stile Industria nel
giugno 1954. La conformazione unitaria
del sedile e dello schienale dà luogo ad
un taglio-cucitura centrale che non può
non ricordare le coeve opere di Lucio
Fontana. La poltroncina DU 30 è una
monoscocca sagomata in rete d’acciaio
con imbottitura in poliuretano espanso
ottenuta da stampo. Gambe in tubolare
di ferro piegato e saldato verniciate
nero testurizzato raggrinzante (NERO
RAL 9005). Rivestimento in Pelle Frau®.
La scocca, dotata di una costola
inferiore, viene fi ssata tramite
viti direttamente a ciascuna coppia
di gambe.
Designed in late 1953, the DU 30 is
without doubt Gastone Rinaldi’s most
famous design. In fact, in 1954 it was
the recipient of the Compasso d’Oro
award, known as the Compasso d’Oro-
Rinascente at the time, in what was the
fi rst year the prize was awarded.
The jury that year included, among
others, Gio Ponti, Marco Zanuso
and Alberto Rosselli. The DU 30 was
immediately patented and appeared on
the cover of the fi rst edition of Stile
Industria magazine in June 1954.
The unitary nature of the seat and
backrest results in a central cutting
and stitching eff ect that brings to
mind the contemporary works of Lucio
Fontana. DU 30 chair has a shaped
single shell in steel mesh with moulded
polyurethane foam padding. Legs in
bent welded iron tubing with a textured,
wrinkled black fi nish (NERO RAL 9005).
Upholstery in Pelle Frau® leather. Fitted
with a lower “backbone”, the shell is
attached directly to each pair of legs
with screws.
La chaise DU 30, conçue à la fi n de
1953, est sans aucun doute la création
la plus célèbre de Gastone Rinaldi.
Elle a reçu en eff et, en 1954, le prix
Compasso d’Oro, qui était alors le
Compasso d’Oro-Rinascente et qui en
était à sa première édition. Cette année-
là le jury comprenait, entre autres,
Gio Ponti, Marco Zanuso et Alberto
Rosselli. La chaise DU 30 fut tout
de suite brevetée et apparut sur la
couverture de la première édition du
journal “Stile Industria” en juin 1954.
La nature unitaire de l’assise et du
dossier donne lieu à une découpe -
couture centrale qui évoque les œuvres
contemporaines de Lucio Fontana.
La chaise DU 30 a une coque profi lée en
maille d’acier avec un rembourrage en
mousse de polyuréthane moulée.
Pieds en tubes de fer pliés et soudés,
avec une fi nition texturée et froissée
noire (NOIR RAL 9005). Le revêtement
est en cuir Pelle Frau®. La coque,
dotée d’une “côte” inférieure, est fi xée
directement à chaque paire de pieds
avec des vis.

1954 Empfänger des Compasso d’Oro,
damals als Compasso d’Oro-Rinascente
bekannt. Es war das erste Jahr,
in dem der Preis verliehen wurde.
Der Jury gehörten in diesem Jahr
unter anderem Gio Ponti, Marco Zanuso
und Alberto Rosselli an.
Der DU 30 wurde sofort patentiert
und erschien auf dem Cover der ersten
Ausgabe des Magazins Stile Industria
im Juni 1954. Die Einheitlichkeit von
Sitz- und Rückenlehne ergibt einen
zentrale Schnitt- und Nahteff ekt,
der an die zeitgenössischen Werke von
Lucio Fontana erinnert. Der DU 30
hat einen geformten Einzelaufbau
aus Stahlgefl echt mit Polyurethan-
Formschaumpolsterung. Beine aus
gebogenem geschweißtem Eisenrohr mit
einem strukturierten, schwarzen Knitter-
Finish (SCHWARZ RAL 9005). Bezug
aus Pelle Frau®-Leder. Ausgestattet
mit einem unteren “Rückgrat”, ist der
Aufbau mit Schrauben direkt mit jedem
Beinpaar befestigt.
