«What struck me the most about Poltrona Frau
is its history in the upholstering of Italian luxury
cars. I always think of a Lancia Thema 8:32 with
a Ferrari V8 engine. Because the car seat is the
sensory link between the chassis and the driver.
In my collaboration with the company, I chose to
work with small pieces of leather cut like a strap,
because Poltrona Frau possesses the top-level
craftsmanship required to do this. The strap motif
helps to optimise the use of this fabulous material,
giving it an extremely pure and effi cient shape
that makes the Grant series both current
and impossible to replicate.»
An interior designer and architect of
emotions, Tristan Auer opened his studio
in Paris in 2002 for the creation of interior
spaces with an original and captivating
style. His approach, extremely rich and
attentive to aesthetic values, fi nds its greatest
expression in the use of vibrant colours, light
and in the combination of styles that can be
traced back to diff erent eras. From the Hôtel
de Crillon and the Bains-Douches in Paris to
prestigious installations in private homes in
London, New York and Mustique Island, his
method of working recalls that of a stage
director, his client being both the main actor
in his screenplay and his accomplice in this
ongoing quest for elegance. As an ambassa-
dor of a certain French “art de vivre”, Tristan
Auer combines his very modern vision with
excellence in decorative arts and craftsman-
ship to off er a new defi nition of contempo-
rary luxury.
