Light creates magic, enhancing the atmosphere and stimulating
well-being. In a space without boundaries, to be experienced
between the indoors and outdoors, over the course of the day
and the seasons, these lanterns contribute to making
the surroundings special and welcoming to complete the
living experience. The three Sparkler fl oor and table lanterns,
designed by Kensaku Oshiro, respond poetically to
the complex range of outdoor lighting: they are light enough
to be transportable, weatherproof and statuesque to furnish
spaces that expand into the sky.
Lanterns create a special relationship with both natural
and artifi cial light. Illuminated by the sun, they create ever-
changing chiaroscuro eff ects; in darkness, they surround the
outdoor space with a warm, intimate light that casts hypnotic
shadows on the ground.
The shape of the Sparklers is reminiscent of the designer’s
origins, evoking typical Japanese lanterns that are enriched
here with references to organic modernism and rice paper
lamps. However, they are no stranger to the more nostalgic
forms of the traditional wineskins that have graced
Mediterranean gardens for centuries. These hints make these
lanterns both familiar and original, harmonising not only with
the furnishings of Solaria and The Secret Garden and with the
entire series of Poltrona Frau outdoor accessories, but also
with the most diverse outdoor environments.
In addition to interpreting Poltrona Frau’s vision of “boundless
living” in the best possible way, the Sparkler lanterns express
continuity with the idea of ambient lighting at the heart of the
company’s indoor lamps, featuring top-quality materials, expert
craftsmanship and the ability to create, when combined in
multiple compositions, impressive lighting eff ects. Both indoors
and outdoors, lighting complements the space and, beyond
the decorative aspect, helps to characterise a habitat.
