The Secret Garden Collection
Designer
Roberto Lazzeroni
The Secret Garden conjures up hidden beauties
of the senses and inner life. It reminisces
of a private, intimate and reserved place.
A familiar place to savour the luxury of time
in total comfort. Roberto Lazzeroni presents
a collection marked by elegance and attention
to detail, drawing a trait d’union between
Scandinavian design, the beginnings of Italian
furnishing design and the unique manufacturing
skills of Poltrona Frau.
Hints at cultural references which, through the gentle nature
of proportions and the expressive immediacy of the
collection, are capable of striking a dialogue with the most
diverse settings. The Secret Garden is elegant and refined,
characterised by solid teak with a natural finish here presented
in slender structures, expressing solid but lightweight
features. Designed to address specific types of use: the
relaxation area with loungers and side tables; the lunch area
with its table and comfortable chairs with armrests; the lounge
and dining area for more informal gatherings, sitting on the
two-seater canapé or on the small armchairs with armrests and
equipped with a special table with a large top (180cm x 80cm)
at a lower height (63cm). With this solution, the collection
responds to changing needs and customs and, above all, to a
freer and less restricted use of furnishings. For new ways of
living that suggest a new collection of objects.
The Secret Garden is a collection full of unspoken, but subtle
and masterfully orchestrated details that reveal themselves
upon closer inspection. Such as the exquisite workmanship and
curved shapes of the wooden sections, obtained from a long
and painstaking process of dimensioning, or the perfection
of the joints and the tactile silkiness of the material.
Or the particular lenticular shape of the seats and loungers,
recognisable in the design and more evident in the loungers,
with tapering lines to give organicity and movement to the
geometries. A level of quality and manufacturing complexity
rarely found in outdoor furniture.
The discreet forms of the collection echo some of the motifs
of outdoor furniture such as weaving, reflected here in the
backrests with two-toned, diagonally structured, hand-woven,
flat cotton webbing that is cleverly inserted into the wooden
section. The Mediterranean tradition of ceramic tops is
represented by the refined combination of green/light blue or
greige tones in the hand-finished glazed stoneware upholstery
of the tables. Stoneware is used in the dining table in large
mosaic tiles, framed by teak as if in a work of art.
The coverings of upholstered sections benefit from a wide
choice of plain or patterned fabrics, with a palette ranging from
chalk to terracotta and mahogany colours, and from a more
nautical blue to the greens of Mediterranean plants. These are
fabrics with material textures and a soft “feel” reminiscent of
indoor materials. The cushions are soft, simply resting on the
backrests for more relaxed comfort and with perimeter “piping”
that echoes the typical lines of leather upholstery.
