Norton Museum
of Art
The Norton Museum of Art was founded in
1941 by Mr. and Mrs. Norton. He was the head
of the Acme Steel Company in Chicago, and
their art collection started as a private one for
their home, becoming in time a truly remarkable
selection. Today, the museum consists of a
permanent collection of 8,200 art pieces and
five departments: European, American, Chinese,
Contemporary, and Photography.
In 2019, the London-based architectural firm
Foster + Partners was asked to design the new
Kenneth C. Griffin Building to provide further
gallery space, classrooms and student exhibition
areas, an auditorium, a new store, a restaurant,
and a Great Hall to the original building.
