The intelligence of the hands is com-
bined
with
technology
for
maximum
comfort at high altitude. In 2017, the Pol-
trona Frau Interiors in Motion business unit
developed the “skyroom suites” and busi-
ness class seats for Singapore Airlines’ fleet
of Airbus A380 aircrafts. The “suites” offer a
genuine domestic environment during the
flight,
designed
by
Pierrejean
Design
Studio,; only six exclusive suites for each
aircraft, featuring a bed that is 130 cm wide,
a wardrobe compartment and a private
bathroom. The choice of colours with light
and warm tones, the walnut details and the
marble-effect tops create a home-like
atmosphere. This is also reflected in the
lounge chairs, which feature sepia grey
upholstery and light beige profiles.
The challenge for Poltrona Frau Interi-
ors in Motion was to conceal the technology
and the complex research into materials
within an image of extreme comfort. For the
lounge chair, they started from an electric
recliner model in the catalogue, and adapted
the ergonomics and padding to the new
function; the push-button panels are now
hidden in the large side pocket. The unit,
developed upholstery in Pelle Frau® leather
that boasts the technical performance and
fireproof characteristics suitable for passen-
ger transport, without compromising the
pleasantness of the touch. The folds of the
leather give a sense of softness that relaxes
the rigidity typical of this type of seating.
And a specially designed back cushion
enhances the feeling of comfort.
The business class armchairs were
designed by the JPA studio in London and
made by the Japanese JAMCO Corporation.
Poltrona Frau Interiors in Motion has dressed
the technology of a design that seeks an inti-
mate and balanced sense of space.
This very comfortable chair offers two-fold
ergonomics; both seated and lying positions
(a full 192 cm in length when reclined) with
lumbar supports that flatten in the bed posi-
tion, and a shaping of the area under the
shoulder that allows for lying in a side posi-
tion. A special aubergine-coloured Pelle
Frau® leather has also been developed for
this armchair, featuring a particular, barely
perceptible “spike” texture in the central
part, which gives it greater grip, making it
even more comfortable. Both seats bear the
Poltrona Frau logo to acknowledge the com-
pany’s important contribution to the design
and building of the space’s comfort, ergo-
nomics and general atmosphere.
