Navigate, travel, live, work. The three
business units - Residential & Offi ce,
Custom Interiors and Interiors in Motion
- are interpreters of diff erent areas of
design; from residential and offi ce to
HoReCa, from automotive to marine.
Engaged in a continuous research and a
mutual transfer of skills for increasingly
complex tailored interiors.
From the outset, Poltrona Frau created
seats for the luxurious transatlantic liners of
the time and furnished institutional spaces
and car interiors for Vincenzo Lancia’s
special customers. Over time, the company
has established its ability to bring to life
non-residential designs that involve very
complex construction. Poltrona Frau has
always worked for a relationship of mutual
and productive exchange with the client.
They are not just a supplier of contract
furniture, but a design partner in the develop-
ment of products from the creative phase
to production and logistics, helping to over-
come the numerous constraints inherent to
different types and uses of spaces.
The
particular
needs
of
different
environments such as residential, office,
retail and hospitality or the transportation
sector — automotive, nautical and air — led
Poltrona Frau to launch three dedicated
business
units:
Residential
&
Office,
Custom Interiors and Interiors in Motion. A
continuous and mutual transfer of research
and skills has developed between the three
design units, especially in recent years. This
close collaboration translates into products
that are impeccably manufactured with
great attention to detail, and in a faithful
interpretation of the spirit and philosophy
underlying each design. Many collabora-
tions have been established with the most
renowned international architecture firms,
including RPBW, Zaha Hadid Studio, Foster
+ Partners, David Chipperfield Architects
and Studio Odile Decq. For furnishing solu-
tions where artisanal know-how, industrial
and technological capacity, innovation and
design materialise design visions and goals.
Since the 1990s, with the armchairs
developed for the Piccolo Teatro Strehler
in Milan and the seats for the European
Parliament in Strasbourg, the Custom
Interiors business unit has taken on increas-
ingly challenging projects, like the seating
designed for auditoria and concert halls,
where the seats become more than an
aesthetic element of the space, and are also
part of its acoustic and experiential dynam-
ics. Each project has its own peculiarities;
