True Heritage
100+10 Years of True Evolution
When Limited Editions support charity
activities. In 2017, Poltrona Frau produced
225 pieces of the Vanity Fair armchair in three
sizes - standard (75 pieces), baby (50) and
mini (100) - to support the FARM Children’s
Museum in Favara, a town in the Sicilian
province of Agrigento. Thanks to the artistic
promotion of the FARM Cultural Park, this
once semi-abandoned site has since become
a popular cultural destination.
The baby and mini versions of the Limited
Edition are upholstered with a special printed
cotton fabric that is inspired by the creativity
of the children of Tolentino: a geometric and
playful pattern that represents the energy
and inventiveness of childhood. It is a gesture
of solidarity from the little ones to their peers,
an invitation to free their imagination and to
experiment through colours and materials.
The initiative is also a way to highlight the
creative gesture and manual intelligence,
values that are fundamental to Poltrona
Frau’s manufacturing. For this reason, the
standard version of the Vanity FARM Child-
ren’s Museum was made with a special
Pelle Frau® Nubuk leather in sepia tones:
a particularly fi ne full-grain aniline dyed
leather that “caresses” the curved shape of
the Vanity armchair, an emblem of Poltrona
Frau’s history and an icon of Italian design.
The Limited Edition contains at a rough
stage, the new paths that the Tolentino
company is today revisiting for its brand
identity; the desire to reinterpret its icons
and symbols through new linguistic codes;
the dialogue with a wider audience, while
increasing proximity through experimenta-
tion; the emotional dimension of a product
that aims to touch people’s hearts.
An archetype of the modern armchair,
Vanity Fair, originally the “model 904” in
1930, is a messenger of a typological revo-
lution by reducing the characteristic frills
typical of the time, in favour of a strongly
volumetric confi guration with very few
distinguishing details, such as the leather
upholstered buttons along the sides and
back. Vanity Fair FARM Children’s Museum
brings the formal innovation of an icon of
style into a more empathic dimension.
