True Heritage
100+10 Years of True Evolution
Limited Editions and Reissues to
celebrate or highlight a cultural heritage
telling the story of Poltrona Frau’s
identity through design.
Limited Editions to carry our know-
how, premium quality craftsmanship and
modern design sensibility into the future.
Since 2012, Poltrona Frau has launched
multiple initiatives celebrating the longe-
vity of some of its most iconic pieces, and
has brought back into production several
archived products, emblems of its research
into the different fashions of furniture and
contemporary lifestyle.
The Limited Editions have often cele-
brated a particular milestone, setting a
moment of experimentation by virtue of
the limited number of copies released. The
Reissues, on the other hand, do not have a
production limit, they like to dialogue with
the more contemporary catalogue. They
represent exceptional elements of our know-
how and a further sign of recognisability.
The Reissues make the testimony of
historical design relevant again. Bringing
them to light also means perpetuating their
cultural heritage. For example, the seats
by Gastone Rinaldi from the 1950s or the
revolving bookcase by Gianfranco Frattini
from the 1960s embody visions of living and
moments of personal intellectual research
within the more general modern movement
and its desire to invent a new world. Because
of their links with the past, these furnishings
are capable of evolving over time in contem-
porary environments, in a cultural dialogue
and in a stylistic syncretism between the
different products.
The Limited Editions have represented
an important moment for Poltrona Frau to
focus and reflect on its corporate identity.
Through the search for alternative solutions,
from upholstery for an armchair to new mate-
rials used for the finishes, the furnishings have
taken on an unprecedented image, writing a
new chapter in the Brand’s heritage.
With the Limited Editions of its iconic
pieces, Poltrona Frau breaks free from its
traditional communication codes of the past,
moving towards unexplored design horizons.
Poltrona Frau’s manufacturing culture
and propensity for design has allowed it
to take the processing techniques and the
nature of the materials to the extreme.
Paraphrasing Gillo Dorfles (2010), “Design
is ‘partially’ art, a project with an artistic
quotient along with a marketing one. A
design object must not be made with the
aim of becoming an object of art: it must
correspond to its function”.
The Limited Editions and Reissues
made by Poltrona Frau also respond to its
public’s need for distinctive products that
are meant to be experienced emotionally.
A public that avoids flat and unified styles
and is more and more in search of selective
objects that inspire passions because they
have a story to tell.
More than
Original, Authentic.
