Massimo Barbierato involves sixty students from
the Design degree program in a project to reuse
waste leather. Many experiments are carried
out: from bonding to pulverising, from cutting to
infl ating, all the way through to combinations with
materials such as plaster, cement, resins, wax,
paper and marble dust.
Poltrona Frau Group Acquires
Ceccotti Collezioni
The majority of Ceccotti Collezioni, a
Tuscan company founded in 1988 by Franco
Ceccotti, operating in the high-end segment of
solid wood furniture, enters the orbit of Poltrona
Frau. The acquisition was made by Haworth Italy
Holding, the Italian branch of parent company
Haworth Inc.

Among the furnishings presented in the
2018 collection there are the Xi ambient lamps
designed by Neri&Hu, and the Soffi suspension
lamps designed by GamFratesi, which received
the Wallpaper* Design Award in the “Best Refl ec-
tive Space” category. Poltrona Frau’s introduction
of lighting and a collection of objects clearly
defi nes the lifestyle strategy that will be the basis
for future products in the catalogue, which today
includes over 40 diff erent product lines.
Poltrona Frau is part of an installation curated
by Clare Farrow in collaboration with the Arup
Group, creating a seat specifi cally for the V&A
Norfolk House Music Room. The design draws its
inspiration from the famous words of Arvo Pärt:
“I could compare my music to white light, which
contains all colours. Only a prism can divide the
colours and make them appear; this prism could
be the spirit of the listener”.
For the International Museum Day, the Pol-
trona Frau Museum hosts an event curated by
Cesare Catà in which the philosopher and per-
former tells the story of five Poltrona Frau models
in contextualized in the literature, historical facts,
social phenomena and entertainment of the times
in which they were made.
Designed by Michele De Lucchi, the Poltrona
Frau stand at the Cologne offi ce product fair is
composed of a structure with hundreds of wooden
shingles that generate continuous movements of
light and shadow. An original way to represent
the general renewal that the offi ce world is ex-
periencing, and an opportunity to present Trust
and Cercle, the system and armchair designed by
Lievore-Altherr-Park, furnishings that are open to
dialogue, sharing and fl exibility.
In collaboration with Studio Urquiola and
Ferrari, Poltrona Frau presents the “Tailor Made”
installation as part of the long-awaited “Ferrari:
Under the Skin” exhibition. In a dedicated exhi-
bition, renowned designer Patricia Urquiola com-
bines fi rst-class leather, manufacturing styles and
stitching techniques from the production facilities
in Tolentino.
The futuristic concept car by GFG Style
(Giorgetto and Fabrizio Giugiaro) is a true lounge
chair on wheels, with comfortable and innovative
reclining seats, upholstered in luxurious Pelle
Frau® leather. The concept car is designed to
off er great roominess while retaining the charm
and elegance of a four-door coupé.

Museum
Poltrona Frau launches a web series in four
episodes; independent stories that are also linked
to each other, where design is life and mixes with
fragments of the daily routine. Each episode
focuses on the protagonists, accompanied by
a Poltrona Frau furnishing. “Home Stories” are
stories of emotions in which the Brand experi-
ments with the most advanced languages, off ering
inspiring media that customers can relate to.
An exhibition curated by Francesca Molteni,
dedicated to objects that tell the story of “Made in
Italy” and that have changed the customs, history,
economy and lifestyle of Italian society. An icono-
graphic exhibition at the Poltrona Frau Museum of
50 or more objects, chosen from the collections
of the archives and museums associated with
Museimpresa.
Poltrona Frau Custom Interiors creates 177
custom-designed furnishings based on a design by
Studio Jean Nouvel. Designed for diff erent ways
of relaxing or waiting, the seats refl ect the curved
lines of the architecture, punctuating the spaces
by relating to them. For the supply of materials,
a specifi c proprietary process was developed to
produce the black leather, which is “ribbed” every
two centimetres, giving the shape a distinctive and
sculptural character.
Frost Science is a science museum dedicat-
ed to sharing the power of science and fuelling
the desire to innovate for the future. The museum
is divided into four buildings: the Planetarium,
the Aquarium, and the North and West wings.
The Poltrona Frau Custom Interiors division
developed, built and installed the seating system
for the Planetarium, designed by Grimshaw
Architects. 260 seats to experience exciting and
educational virtual journeys.
The fi rst multi-function theatre that can be
transformed into three confi gurations: a classic
theatre, a concert hall, or an event room with
space for setting up large banquets, thanks to the
retractable seats. Designed by architect Janus
Rostock of the WS Atkins studio and built in just
three years, the Dubai Opera House can seat up
to 2,000 people on armchairs designed by the
Custom Interiors division.
The Poltrona Frau Interiors in Motion busi-
ness unitupholstered the seats in Business and
First Class. The objective was to enhance the
airline’s identity, combining technology and ele-
gance in the Poltrona Frau style, while complying
with all technical and safety regulations for air-
craft design. The two seats allow unprecedented
comfort and maximise the user’s privacy, creating
an atmosphere that recalls domestic spaces.
The new complex designed by the Herzog
& de Meuron studio opens, home to three audi-
toriums, a hotel and 45 private residences. The
heart of the project is the concert hall, situated at
a height of 50 meters, for which the Poltrona Frau
Custom Interiors division created and installed
2,100 seats, designed for the project by the same
Basel-based studio.
