used in the furnishings, which has been FSC®
certifi ed since 2019, a mark that identifi es
products containing wood from forests that are
managed correctly and responsibly, according
to strict environmental, social and economic
standards. The fi rst products to achieve FSC®
certifi cation were the Times Lounge and
Martha armchairs, designed, respectively, by
Spalvieri & Del Ciotto and Roberto Lazzeroni.
The most recent is the outdoor collection The
Secret Garden, designed by Roberto Lazzeroni.
Sustainability means also effi cient manage-
ment of the production system. Procedures
have been launched at the Tolentino factory
to promote energy resource savings. For the
last eleven years, the photovoltaic system has
made it possible to reduce electricity needs by
35%; no water is used in the production pro-
cesses; the machines are cyclically replaced for
greater effi ciency and reduced maintenance;
goods are transported using electric pallet
trucks powered by grid energy from renewable
sources. Effi cient management of the entire
production system also produces positive
results in terms of environmental quality and
factory safety. Poltrona Frau has been ISO
9001 certifi ed since 1995, which guarantees
the quality and optimisation of the organisa-
tional structure. Since 2018, this certifi cation
has been integrated with IATF 16949 for the
automotive sector, ISO 45001 for occupational
health and safety since 2020, and ISO 14001 for
the environmental management of production
since 2010.
The Tolentino factory follows an inte-
grated protocol for operating procedures
that is aimed at the continuous improvement
of performance, ranging from the traceability
of raw materials to the management of the
disposal of recyclable or hazardous waste,
which Poltrona Frau aims to eliminate
completely. The company is progressively
replacing foam and plastic packaging with
single-material packages made of paper
and cardboard sourced from FSC® certifi ed
forests. Finally, underlining the extent to which
sustainability is a question of processes at all
levels, the Tolentino plant is also equipped
with a charging space for electric vehicles and
