1. Habits
The first thing to consider when choosing the work surface is your habits
when using the kitchen.
The worktop is the most exposed part of the kitchen and therefore the
part that is used daily.
There are those who prepare directly on the worktop, using all types of
knives and blades, and who need a lot of space, those instead who want
the worktop to be always clean and sanitized and who cannot bear seeing
unnecessary objects resting on the worktop.
Whatever your habits are, it is clear that the worktop is the part of the
kitchen that is most at risk of wear and tear, because it is constantly
subjected to impacts and abrasions.
Exposure to heat should not be underestimated. Many people have the
habit of removing hot pots and pans from the hob and placing them
directly onto the worktop, for convenience. If the worktop material is not
suitable to withstand direct contact with heat, your worktop may be
seriously damaged.
Liquids can also damage the worktop if it is made of particularly porous
material. Liquids, such as vinegar, lemon juice or even salt can corrode
some valued materials, irreparably ruining them.
