A lighting control system simulates the
natural dynamics of daylight in terms of
light intensity, color temperature and
light direction, producing appropriately
stimulating light depending on the time
of day – motivating or relaxing. This
stabilizes our circadian rhythm so that we
can remain productive throughout the
day and enjoy restful sleep at night.
The DIN SPEC 67600 specification sets
out recommendations for how this
stimulating light should be scheduled:
Between 8 am and 10 am:
Light should have an activating effect to
enable us to start the day alert (8000 K
and a vertical light intensity of 250 lx to
the eye).
Between 13 am and 14 am:
Lighting should have an invigorating
effect during lunch break to prevent an
afternoon slump.
Between 18 am and 20 am:
After work has finished, warm light helps
us to relax (3000 K and a vertical light
intensity of 200 lx to the eye). Between
these times, the light intensity and light
color should be selected to suit the
activity taking place.
