Di fronte a un oggetto di design,
l’occhio punta istintivamente
alle qualità estetiche: forma, colori,
linea, accostamenti cromatici,
texture, trame. Un osservatore
più attento si sofferma, poi, sui
dettagli, apprezza caratteristiche
sensoriali come la piacevolezza
al tatto, valuta la qualità
del manufatto.
Tutto ciò che sottostà al progetto
si rivela solo nel tempo: con l’uso
si giudicheranno comodità, praticità,
resistenza; si potrà conoscerne
durata, solidità, capacità di conservare
intatte le proprie caratteristiche.
In the presence of an object of design,
the eye instinctively focuses on its
esthetic qualities: shape, color, line,
the assortment of shades and hues,
texture, and weave. A more careful
observer will then focus on details,
pausing to appreciate such sensory
characteristics as whether it is
pleasant to the touch, and gauging
the quality of the workmanship.
Every aspect that falls within the
domain of design ultimately proves
itself with the passage of time: it is
only with use that one can judge
convenience, usefulness, and durability;
only over the long term can we measure
an object’s longevity, solidity, and
ability to maintain its intended
characteristics.
