La produzione e la lavorazione di queste
materie avvengono direttamente nei
luoghi d’origine, spesso in accordo con
i governi e le associazioni non governative
attive sul territorio, nel rispetto del lavoro
e delle culture locali, rafforzando filiere
produttive virtuose e socialmente utili,
che operano secondo tecniche tradizionali
e senza ricorso a trattamenti chimici.

La consuetudine umana con questi
materiali è antichissima. Nel corso di
migliaia di anni, le piante che l’uomo
ha addomesticato, cioè ha portato
dentro la casa prima ancora di imparare
a coltivarle, hanno offerto alimenti,
fibre tessili, combustibili, materiali per
la costruzione. Grazie a esse l’uomo è
progredito, producendo beni che hanno
reso la vita più facile e più bella. In tutte
le culture del mondo nei secoli si sono
sviluppate filiere produttive tradizionali
intorno a cui sono cresciute comunità.
L’intimità che si è storicamente creata
con queste materie e con le forme che
hanno assunto fa sì che ancora oggi le
riconosciamo come familiari, nostre,
che le viviamo con una sensazione di
comunione e di benessere, anche se per
noi queste conoscenze e colture sono
andate perdute. Un senso di intimità
amplificato dalla manualità delle
lavorazioni, che rende unico ogni pezzo.

Human beings have had a close
familiarity with these materials since
ancient times. Over the course of
thousands of years, the plants that
humans have domesticated, which is to
say, that they brought into their homes
even before learning to cultivate them,
were the sources of foodstuffs, textile
fibers, fuel, and construction materials.
Thanks to them, humanity has progressed,
producing goods that made life easier
and more enjoyable. In all the cultures of
the planet, over the centuries, traditional
systems of production developed, and
communities sprang up around them.
The closeness that developed historically
with these materials and with the forms
that they took over time has ensured that
even now we recognize them as familiar,
belonging to us, and we think of them with
a sensation of communion and well-being,
even if those bodies of knowledge and
agricultural traditions are lost to us. A
sense of intimacy amplified by the manual
processing involved in manufacture,
making each individual item unique.
