Ora sono a Venezia, mio caro Usbek. Si può aver visto tutte le città del
mondo e rimanere sorpresi arrivando a Venezia: si proverà sempre
stupore vedendo una città, delle torri e delle moschee emergere
dall’acqua e trovando una popolazione innumerevole in un luogo dove
ci dovrebbero essere solo pesci.
I am now in Venice, my dear Usbek; one can have seen every city in the
world, and still be surprised on arriving in Venice; one will always be
astonished to find a city, towers, and mosques emerging from the water,
and to see innumerable people in a place where there should be only
fish.
