Nella campagna dell’Anglia orientale, una
suggestiva struttura di mattoni rossi domina il
parco circostante. È la Christchurch Mansion di
Ipswich la cui porta è diventata la protagonista
di una curiosa storia. Nel 1800 mastri falegnami e
vetrai costruirono un maestoso portone, testimone
dell’età vittoriana e del suo patrimonio culturale. Nel
2011 alcuni ladri violarono il museo e per rendere
più sicuro e protetto l’intero edificio si pensò di
realizzare il portale ex novo rafforzandolo con
sistemi di sicurezza in acciaio ma con la volontà di
rimanere fedeli al materiale e al design originale.
Un progetto unico nel suo genere in cui maestranze
specializzate hanno realizzato interamente a mano
la struttura riproducendo perfino le imperfezioni
originali del legno grazie all’utilizzo di tecniche
innovative e all’avanguardia. Per molti mesi,
falegnami, carpentieri, tecnici ed esperti sono stati
coinvolti nella realizzazione di un’opera minuziosa
e impegnativa. Con un lavoro attento e accurato,
la porta in stile neogotico è stata smontata e
trasferita in Italia per essere riprodotta in tutta la
sua reale bellezza. Grazie a questo progetto, antico
e contemporaneo trascendono il tempo e lo spazio,
artigianalità e sicurezza confermano il loro legame
indissolubile, arte e tecnologia sono diventati parte
della stessa storia.
In the countryside of East Anglia, a striking red brick
mansion dominates the surrounding park. It is the
Christchurch Mansion of Ipswich whose door has
become the protagonist of a curious story. In 1800
master carpenters and glassmakers built a majestic
gate, witnessing the Victorian age and its cultural
heritage. In 2011, some thieves violated the museum
and to make the whole building safer and more
protected, it was decided to build the gate from
scratch, reinforcing it with steel security systems yet
with the will to remain faithful to the original material
and design. A landmark project in which skilled
workers created the structure by hand, reproducing
even the original wood imperfections thanks to
the use of innovative and avant-garde techniques.
For many months, carpenters, joiners, technicians
and experts were involved in the realization of a
meticulous and demanding work. With careful
and accurate work, the neo-gothic style door was
dismantled and moved to Italy to be reproduced
in all its actual beauty. Thanks to this project, the
ancient and contemporary eras transcend time
and space, craftsmanship and safety confirm their
indissoluble bond, art and technology have
become part of the same story.
