Sevendials è situata nel piccolo paesino di Mottram
St Andrew, nel nord ovest dell’Inghilterra. Immersa
nel verde di una collina, la villa privata è circondata
da un giardino dove, tra querce e betulle, si scorge
una meravigliosa veduta della contea di Cheshire,
nel Galles del nord. Sevendials è, a tutti gli effetti,
un’abitazione lussuosa, la pianta, a forma di L, sembra
essere stata progettata per abbracciare il tramonto,
mentre il tetto, che funge terrazza, prolunga quel
dialogo offrendo uno spazio ulteriore di vita all’aperto
e creando un’area di congiunzione tra vita domestica
e vita all’esterno, tra architettura e ambiente. Un
dialogo tra interno ed esterno reso possibile anche
dalle ampie vetrate che accolgono la luce naturale e il
paesaggio, portandoli all’interno dell’abitazione stessa.
Lo spazio abitativo si suddivide tra due piani, su
un’area di oltre 600 m2, compresi un ufficio, una zona
relax e una suite per gli ospiti. Un ampio porticato
a sbalzo in zinco percorre l’intera lunghezza della
struttura, fornendo protezione dalla luce solare nei
mesi estivi, ma allo stesso tempo consentendo ai bassi
raggi invernali di penetrarvi indisturbati. Luce e natura
entrano ed escono a loro piacimento dalle grandi
vetrate, infondendo vita ad ogni oggetto e portando
il paesaggio dentro casa.
Sevendials is located in the small village of Mottram
St Andrew, in the north-west of England. Nestled in
the green of a hill, this private villa is surrounded by a
garden where, between oak and birch trees, one can
enjoy a wonderful view of the Cheshire county, in North
Wales. Sevendials is a luxurious house, the L-shaped
plan seems to have been designed to embrace the
sunset, while the roof, which serves as a terrace,
prolongs that dialogue by offering a further space for
outdoor living and creating an area of conjunction
between domestic and outdoor life, between
architecture and the environment. A dialogue between
interior and exterior made possible also by the large
windows that welcome natural light and the landscape,
bringing them inside the house itself. The living space
is divided on two floors, over an area of over 600 m2,
including an office, a relaxation area and a suite for
guests. A large zinc cantilever porch runs along the
entire length of the structure, providing protection from
sunlight in the summer months, but at the same time
allowing the low winter rays to penetrate undisturbed.
Light and nature come and go through the large
windows, infusing life to every object and bringing the
landscape inside the house.
