Il Bosco Verticale è un complesso di due palazzi
residenziali a torre progettato da Boeri Studio
situato nel Centro Direzionale di Milano.
Peculiarità di queste costruzioni, ambedue
inaugurate nel 2014, è la presenza di più di duemila
essenze arboree, tra arbusti e alberi ad alto fusto,
distribuite sui prospetti. Si tratta di un ambizioso
progetto di riforestazione metropolitana che
attraverso la densificazione verticale del verde si
propone di incrementare la biodiversità vegetale
e animale del capoluogo lombardo, riducendone
l’espansione urbana e contribuendo anche alla
mitigazione del microclima.
Boeri ebbe l’idea di realizzare un grattacielo rivestito
di alberi a Dubai quando ebbe l’impressione di
aggirarsi in una «città minerale, fatta di decine di
nuove torri e grattacieli, tutti rivestiti di vetro o di
ceramica, tutti riflettenti la luce solare e dunque
generatori di calore nell’aria e soprattutto sul suolo
abitato dai pedoni». Furono questi i fattori che
stimolarono Boeri a progettare «due torri rivestite
non di vetro, ma di foglie, di piante, di arbusti, di
alberi, di vita», promettendo al contempo una
riduzione dei consumi energetici proprio grazie
all’azione dello schermo vegetale.
Il Bosco ha avuto vastissima eco, come attestato dai
vari riconoscimenti ottenuti e dalla cospicua mole di
indagini scientifiche, azioni di studio e documentari
che lo hanno interessato.
The Vertical Forest is a complex made up of two
residential tower buildings designed by Boeri Studio
located in the Business District of Milan.
A peculiarity of these constructions, both inaugurated
in 2014, is the presence of more than two thousand
tree species, including shrubs and tall trees,
distributed on the elevations. This is an ambitious
project of metropolitan reforestation aiming - through
the vertical green densification - at increasing
the flora and fauna biodiversity of the Lombard
capital, thus reducing its urban expansion and also
contributing to the mitigation of the microclimate.
Boeri had the idea of building a skyscraper covered
with trees while he was in Dubai where he had the
impression of wandering around in a “mineral city,
made up of dozens of new towers and skyscrapers,
all covered with glass or ceramic, all reflecting
sunlight and, therefore, generating heat in the air and
above all on the ground inhabited by pedestrians”.
These were the factors that stimulated Boeri to
design “two towers covered not of glass, but of
leaves, plants, shrubs, trees, life”, promising at the
same time a reduction of energy consumption thanks
to the action of such plant screen.
The Vertical Forest had a huge echo, as evidenced by
the various awards obtained and by the conspicuous
amount of scientific investigations, study actions and
documentaries that concerned it.
