To the moon –
and beyond
At Milan Design Week 2024, Occhio is presenting Lunanova, its first
chandelier – and completely redefining this category. The spherical
appearance of the light artwork is an absolute eye-catcher and
expressive statement. Axel Meise, Occhio founder and designer, on
the novelties for Milan Design Week 2024 – and a new opulence.
What does new opulence mean to you?
Axel Meise: Occhio’s design philosophy has always been
characterized by purism. With our new Luna series, we
deliberately broke with our signature design to introduce
a much more emotional approach, of course without
compromising on the unique quality of light and magical
control featured in all Occhio luminaires. Lunanova now
shows what is possible – rewriting the rules opulance in
chandeliers in the truest sense of the word.
What makes Lunanova new and stand-out?
Axel Meise: Lunanova combines spectacular design with
innovative technology: dark chrome mirrored Luna glass
spheres in various sizes are arranged concentrically on a
mirrored disk. The Occhio fireball float inside the spheres,
providing powerful, directed light. And it wouldn’t be an
Occhio chandelier if Lunanova didn’t offer fascinating
control possibilities for magical lighting effects that go
far beyond anything seen before.
Lunanova can be admired in the Occhio store in
Corso Monforte during Milan Design Week. Who is
the chandelier for?
Axel Meise: For people who are looking for something
unique, who do not compromise in lighting design and
are looking for a real statement piece. Available in three
different dimensions and both ceiling-mounted and sus-
pended, Lunanova unfolds its power as a centerpiece in
high, prestigious rooms – a true interactive art installation.
