Backside è una collezione di divani che,
fin dal nome, promuove lo schienale
come elemento centrale nell’idea di
progetto. Se formalmente la struttura
delle sedute segue un’impostazione
rigorosamente ortogonale, nell’uso di
ricami, bottoni, di cuscini decorativi,
nei dettagli e nella selezione dei tessuti
emerge un’inclinazione influenzata
da ricerche proprie del mondo
dell’abbigliamento; una caratteristica
che, accanto alla qualità distintiva del
comfort – elusiva reminiscenza di
un daybed orientale – accosta una forte
componente visiva e comunicativa.
Designed by Nipa Doshi and
Jonathan Levien in 2008, My Beautiful
Backside is a collection of sofas that,
as the name suggests, emphasises
the backrest as the central element in
the design brief. While the structure of
the seats follows a strictly angular shape,
from the use of embroidery, buttons,
decorative cushions, alongside the
details and the choice of fabrics emerges
a suggestion influenced by in-house
research into the world of upholstery;
a trait that matches the distinctive quality
of the elusive comfort reminiscent of
an Asian daybed with a powerful visual
and communicative statement.
