La diffusione di cellulari sempre più sofisticati in grado di catturare
le immagini istantanee di ogni momento della nostra giornata non ha
minimamente scalfito il mito della Polaroid. Anzi, la passione per le
macchine fotografiche istantanee sta vivendo un grande ritorno proprio
grazie all’interesse dei più giovani. Sarà per la nostalgia di un tempo passato,
vissuto forse con più leggerezza quando non esisteva la post-produzione
e le foto erano scatti singoli e a numero limitato. Soprattutto erano scatti
unici e irripetibili da custodire quanto un oggetto prezioso. O, forse, la magia
della Polaroid è anche il gioco di una immagine che ora non c’è e, poco dopo,
prende forma. Perché quello che rende la macchina fotografica istantanea
un oggetto speciale è proprio l’emozione di vedere apparire l’immagine
sulla carta, è l’attesa di quel momento speciale in cui le piccole “cartoline
artistiche” iniziano a comparire dal nulla, per poi riguardarle all’infinito.
Polaroid è un mito che rivive ancora oggi nel formato quadrato di Instagram,
il social degli scatti dal sapore vintage che più di tutti si ispira a quel progetto
geniale di settanta anni fa.
The popularity of increasingly sophisticated mobile phones, which

making a come-back among younger generations. Perhaps it’s down
to a nostalgia for the past, back when post-production didn’t exist and
photographs were limited in number. In fact, photographs shot on film
cameras were unique treasures and precious objects. Perhaps the magic
of Polaroid comes down to the fact an image appears suddenly out of thin
air. What makes instant film cameras so special is the thrill of watching
the image develop and waiting for that special moment when a small
“artistic postcard” suddenly appears, there to marvel at for eternity. The
Polaroid camera is a cult classic that lives on to this day in the square
format of Instagram, and social media posts with vintage filters that are
inspired by a machine invented seventy years ago.
