Di gentilezza ne abbiamo davvero bisogno. Nella vita di tutti i
giorni, tra personaggi pubblici che urlano e insulti in tv, pare che la
gentilezza non sia più di moda. Chi è gentile sembra noioso e debole.
Eppure, la gentilezza può renderci persino più forti. Ed è indispensabile
per la vita in comunità perché, innanzitutto, un atto cortese fa bene a
chi lo riceve e all’intera società. Lo confermano anche le ultime ricerche
scientifiche: chi studia e lavora con il sorriso è più produttivo, popolare e
ha più successo. La gentilezza si manifesta attraverso due aspetti: nella
buona educazione, nell’osservanza delle regole sociali, nelle parole come
grazie, prego, per favore, scusa; l’altro aspetto e dato dalla generosità,
dall’altruismo, dall’accoglienza. Cioè tutto quello che ci rende brave
persone che si sforzano di essere migliori, ogni giorno. Per sensibilizzare
a questo tema è stata istituita una giornata mondiale della gentilezza (13
novembre) intenta a promuovere la cortesia dei piccoli gesti, la pazienza
e l’ascolto. Per questo, insegnare ai propri figli a essere gentili non è solo
una cosa giusta. È un investimento per il loro futuro perché li aiuterà a
stare bene e ad avere successo nella vita e nel lavoro.
We really need kindness. In everyday life, what with public figures
who shout all the time, and insults on TV, it seems that politeness
is no longer fashionable. Kindness is starting to look dull and weak.
Yet, kindness can make us even stronger. And it is indispensable for
community life because, first and foremost, an act of kindness is good
for the recipient and for society as a whole. This is also confirmed by
the latest scientific research: people who work and study with a smile
are more productive, more popular, and more successful. Kindness
manifests itself in two ways: in good manners, in observance of social
rules, in words such as thank you, please, excuse me; the other comes
from generosity, altruism, acceptance. That is, everything that makes
us good people who strive to be better, every day. To raise awareness
of this issue, a World Day of Kindness (13 November) was established
to promote the courtesy of small gestures, patience and listening.
Therefore, teaching one’s children to be kind is not only right. It is
an investment in their future because it will help them to be well and
successful in life and work.
