URBAN MANDALAS
In Hindu and Buddhist a mandala is a figure representing the universe,
communicating unity and harmony. Peterson creates his own mandalas
based on the look and feel of cities that hold a special place in his heart.
Each design englobes its own elaborate pattern and set of colours, yet
they all connect and blend into each other at a higher level.
N E A L P E T E R S O N
Neal Peterson is an American artist based in Minneapolis whose work is
influenced by his travels around the globe. In 2016, Peterson began crea-
ting large-scale collages of cities composed of original street photography.
Combining iconic architecture, natural elements, graffiti and more, his Urban
Mandalas capture the blossoming, fractal nature of cities. With Buddhist art as
inspiration, these kaleidoscopic microcosms represent the oneness and con-
nectivity of a city and its people. Each design is unique in its details, but the
form remains the same throughout the series, illustrating our commonalities
and collective humanity.
