Theia
The Greek goddess Theia – mother
of the sun, the moon and the dawn – lends
her name to this lamp, whose design
seeks to express the beauty of light and
the fascination we feel for it. In Theia, the
materials and shapes are merely the physical
manifestations of the underlying concept:
merging both light and shadow in
a single piece.
Theia has two faces: to discover them,
simply swivel the fixture around its central
axis. It can be pointed towards you for use
as a reading lamp, or towards an object
or a wall, creating a subtle, indirect light
that immediately warms the atmosphere.
Because Theia’s metal lampshade is totally
opaque, this swivelling movement totally
shifts the perception of the piece.
Theia’s formal design is elementary
and streamlined: two half-spheres, one
placed horizontally and the other vertically,
which intersect with each other. Just
as in nature itself, these formal elements
make it possible for the light from
a source to be simultaneously projected,
reflected, and absorbed by objects for
our visual enjoyment.
El nombre de la diosa griega Theia
–madre del sol, la luna y la aurora– da nombre
a esta lámpara porque con su diseño se
quiere expresar ante todo la belleza de
la luz y la fascinación que sentimos por ella.
En Theia, materiales y formas son tan sólo
el medio para materializar el concepto
que ha motivado su trabajo: unir en una
misma pieza luz y sombra.
Theia tiene dos caras, para descubrirlas
sólo hay que girarla suavemente sobre
su eje. Se puede dirigir hacia el usuario
y funciona como una lámpara para leer.
O bien, hacia un objeto o una pared, creando
un sutil efecto de luz indirecta que caldea el
ambiente en un instante. Este giro cambia
completamente la percepción de la pieza, ya
que su difusor metálico es totalmente opaco.
Su diseño formal es elemental
y reducido: dos semiesferas colocadas una
en horizontal y otra en vertical que
interseccionan entre sí. Formas elementales
que, como en la propia naturaleza, hacen
posible que, a partir de una fuente luminosa, la
luz se proyecte, se refleje y sea absorbida
por los objetos, para gozo de nuestra mirada.
