Design and
Engineering
With a design that is nothing short of revolutionary, Air-Chair, designed by Jasper
Morrison in 1999, was the first single-piece chair in the world conceived and de-
signed to be produced with air-moulding technology. The material used, a polypro-
pylene reinforced with glass fibre, results in a lightweight yet ultra-resistant chair.
RE Air-Chair and RE Air-Armchair are added to the collection in a new version made
entirely from 100% post-consumer plastic, obtained from the recycling of polylami-
nates and single-use food packaging. These chairs are 100% recyclable.
Highlighting the design’s sustainable mission, the two models are presented in a
single finish resulting from the mix of materials, without the addition of dyes during
production.
Air-Chair is not just any plastic chair: it has been defined by many as “a chair of
today, a classic of tomorrow”. This is emphasised by Eric Kentley of the London De-
sign Museum, who described Air-Chair as “an absolute masterpiece. It’s extraordi-
nary. Aesthetically pleasing and affordable, it can be placed indoors or out. This chair
combines two fundamental characteristics of good design: simplicity and timeless
style”.
Balanced, dynamic, stackable and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, RE Air-
Chair is the innovation which creates atmosphere: in the home or outdoors, in public
or in private.
