40 years of Lumina
40 years of quality light.
Tommaso Cimini at the drawing board, 1982.
Lumina was set up in 1980 and Tommaso
Cimini already understood how form
should be subordinated to function.
As in Daphine, a simple, clean, iconic lamp
that was to write the company’s history.
With his ingenuity, creative capacity to
reinvent himself and deep knowledge
of materials, Tommaso Cimini managed
to retool the machines in his “garage”
to generate the Daphine’s essential forms.
Every new prototype made in those
years was, and still is, taken home to test
under day-to-day conditions.
So that its light could be experienced and
its form be analyzed ergonomically.
Insistence on making the products in the
original workshops, an innate craft attitude
and quality control are still Lumina’s
strengths. The founder’s legacy is powerfully
active in Lumina’s business culture today.
With its simple geometry, Daphine will
always be a benchmark at Lumina.
Appreciated by architects and designers,
it’s still an icon on the markets.
Our story began with an idea: “Lots of light,
not much lamp”. That was in 1975, when
Tommaso Cimini created Daphine. A lamp
that museums, libraries and countless people
still ask us for. Back then the means were scarce,
but our passion for light was huge.
