Vase
The Indians in the virgin forests of the Amazon have a
myriad of words to distinguish the vast number of diff erent
tones of green in their surrounding landscape. Lladró has
also used the most exotic tones of green from its palette
of colors to decorate Paradise vase (01001997), a limited
edition of 150 pieces.
Almost as if it were a canvas to draw on, Lladró artists have
deployed all their skill on the surface of this vase —the
largest created by the brand to date— an earthly paradise in
the virgin forest, where people and animals live together in
harmony. The landscape is inspired by the pictures in which
the French artist Henri Rousseau (1844-1910) portrayed
an exotic world, full of dream-like visions, often set in lush
tropical jungles or forests.
Particularly worth noting is the complex treatment of depth,
achieved through the use of volume. In fact this is the vase
with the greatest number of diff erent planes made by Lladró,
in which you can count up to ten. The man and woman
stand out in relief in the foreground, against a backdrop of
exuberant vegetation and a large variety of animals including
a panther, a tiger, an owl, a bird of paradise, a bear … that
invite us to look for them, in a game of hide-and-seek that
helps us to discover the vast decorative wealth of the piece.
This play of depth also aff ects the process of decoration,
particularly complex due to the large size and the shape
of the vase. For instance, the various tones of color help to
make the nudes stand out from the exuberant vegetation or
for the animals to blend in to perfection in the undergrowth.
The greatest diffi culty in painting the piece was to achieve the
quantity of diff erent tones of green, with warmer notes on the
top where more sunlight reaches, and darker tones towards
the bottom, where the jungle is thicker. The lush greenness
contrasts with the tropical colors of the pink, blue and orange
papyrus fl owers.
Los indios de las selvas vírgenes del Amazonas tienen muchas
palabras distintas para designar la cantidad de tonos de verde del
paisaje que les rodea. Lladró también ha empleado los verdes más
exóticos de su paleta para decorar Jarrón Paraíso (01001997),
una serie limitada de 150 piezas.
Como si de un lienzo se tratara, los artistas de Lladró han
desplegado en la superfi cie de este jarrón −el más grande creado
por la marca hasta la fecha−, un paraíso terrenal en una selva
virgen, donde personas y animales conviven juntos en armonía.
Un paisaje inspirado en la colección de cuadros que el pintor
francés Henri Rousseau (1844-1910) dedicó a representar un
mundo exótico, lleno de visiones oníricas, a menudo ambientadas
en la jungla.
Lo que más destaca en esta obra es el complejo tratamiento de
la profundidad, conseguida a través del volumen. No en vano
estamos ante el jarrón con más planos que Lladró ha realizado
hasta ahora, en el que se pueden contar hasta una decena. El
hombre y la mujer sobresalen en relieve en el primer plano,
seguidos por una exuberante vegetación y animales de las más
variadas especies y procedencias como una pantera, un tigre, un
búho, un ave de paraíso, un oso… que nos invitan a buscarlos, en
un juego que nos descubre a su vez la enorme riqueza decorativa
de esta obra.
Este juego de profundidades se traslada también al proceso de
decoración, muy complejo por el gran tamaño y las formas del
jarrón. Así, los diferentes matices de color contribuyen a que
los desnudos destaquen sobre la exuberante vegetación o que los
animales se inserten a la perfección en la maleza. La máxima
difi cultad a nivel pictórico está en lograr la cantidad de tonos de
verde que tiene la pieza, los matices cálidos arriba, donde llega la
luz, que se oscurecen abajo, donde la jungla se hace más espesa.
Un verdor que contrasta con los colores tropicales de las fl ores de
papiro rosas, azules y anaranjadas.
