En la tradición épica de la antigua India se relata cómo Shiva
enseñó por primera vez el yoga a su esposa Parvati mientras un
delfín del río Ganges lo escuchaba. Al oír las enseñanzas del dios,
el delfín se convirtió en hombre y fue llamado Matsiendra, el Pez
Rey. Este discípulo sería más tarde el maestro Shiva Mahadeva
Nath, el creador del yoga.
Fascinados por su rica iconografía, los artistas de Lladró han
dado vida a Lord Shiva, el dios hindú de la meditación y las
artes, en una serie limitada de 720 unidades elaboradas en Alta
Porcelana. A nivel artístico, destacan los vivos colores sobre su
piel azul grisácea, cubierta por las cenizas que indican que la
muerte es la realidad última de la vida. Además, reúne técnicas
decorativas muy variadas y complejas, como el lustre de oro, que
subraya su carácter majestuoso.
Esta abundancia decorativa abarca desde los brazaletes y
cintas que recogen su pelo a las fl ores que decoran su tocado y
la guirnalda, todas hechas a mano, pétalo a pétalo. Todos los
atributos de Shiva están trabajados y defi nidos con gran lujo de
detalles: el tridente, símbolo de su poder; el tambor, que marca
el ritmo del cosmos; la serpiente que Pavarti le ató al cuello
salvándole de ingerir un veneno; el collar de Rudraksha, semilla
sagrada con poderes medicinales; y ese rodete en su cabello por el
que fl uye el río Ganges que el dios interceptó en su caída para que
no hundiera a la Tierra con su fuerza.
Simbolismo y artesanía juntos en una pieza de Alta Porcelana
que es una joya en sí misma. Completa la escultura una peana
con una forma especial que permite situar opcionalmente la
pieza Lingam (01009249), símbolo con el que se venera al dios
y que ayuda a superar cualquier situación que obstaculice el
crecimiento personal.
The epic tradition of ancient India tells how Shiva showed
yoga to his divine consort Parvati for the fi rst time while a
dolphin in the river Ganges was listening to him. When he
heard the god’s teachings, the dolphin was turned into a
man and was called Matsyendra, the Fish King. This disciple
would later be Shiva Mahadeva Nath, the creator of yoga.
Fascinated by the wealth of his iconography, Lladró artists
have given life to Lord Shiva, the Hindu god of meditation
and the arts, in a limited edition of 720 units made in Lladró
High Porcelain. Artistically speaking, it is worth underscoring
the bright greyish blue coloring of the skin, covered by ashes
to convey the fact that death is the ultimate reality of life. In
addition, it boasts many complex decorative techniques, like
golden luster, underlining its majestic character.
This decorative abundance embraces everything from the
bracelets to the ribbons around his hair as well as the fl owers
that decorate the headdress and the garland, all handmade
petal by petal. Shiva’s attributes are fi nely worked and
defi ned with a host of details: the trident which is the symbol
of his power; the drum which marks the beat of the cosmos;
the snake that Parvati tied around his neck to stop him from
swallowing poison; the bands of rudraksha, a sacred seed
with medicinal powers; and the bun in his hair from which
the river Ganges fl ows and the god intercepts as if falls so that
it does not fl ood the Earth.
Symbolism and craftsmanship are combined in this High
Porcelain piece that is a true gem in itself. The sculpture is
rounded off by a base with a special shape that provides room
for the optional piece Lingam (01001981), a sacred symbol
used to worship Shiva and to overcome any situation that
impedes personal growth.
