«Quando l’abbiamo vista, trent’anni fa, abbiamo
detto a Piero che non ne avremmo venduta una»,
hanno ricordato in Living Divani, a proposito del primo
incontro con Frog.
«Vendere?» dev’essersi detta lei: «Ma farò di meglio!
Sarò longeva, girerò tutto il mondo e, siccome porto
il nome di un animale che ha fatto della trasformazione
un’arte, cambierò d’abito, sperimenterò materiali,
azzarderò colori e diventerò l’icona stessa di quelle
proporzioni un po’ sbagliate di cui parla Piero Lissoni
quando gli chiedono di me».
Ed eccoci qui, con Frog che festeggia il suo
trentesimo compleanno.
Apparsa sulle scene nel 1995 in versione intrecciata
Candore Assoluto, triplicatasi poco dopo in un eccentrico
prototipo, a sorpresa si ripresenta in versione rivestita
in pelle o feltro. Gli intrecci sono nel suo DNA,
rigorosamente artigianali, e allora li prova anche con
profili in cuoio, pvc, corda in canapa e corda in cellulosa,
nelle versioni a due o a quattro fili.
Si fa super morbida con una imbottitura trapuntata in pelle
o tessuto. Festeggia i vent’anni in versione ultraleggera
con struttura in carbonio e intreccio in poliestere.
Scopre le gioie del relax e genera Frog Lounge, in versione
indoor e outdoor.
E per il suo anniversario, aumentati gli spessori,
dichiara di essere forte, sottolineando la sua ossatura
in alluminio. In tutto questo frequenta musei, teatri,
ispira artisti esordienti e affermati, mentre il suo
autore vince premi a man bassa.
Ma quel che è più importante, va ad abitare in moltissime
case, alberghi, aziende, ville, negozi, uffici,
appartamenti, gallerie, show room, in compagnia di donne,
uomini, ragazzi, ragazze, bambine, bambini, animali,
piante, come raccontano le trenta storie qui raccolte.
Per il futuro ha detto che ci penserà, non ha fretta.
«When we first saw her thirty years ago, we told Piero
we wouldn’t sell a single one,» the people at Living Divani
recalled about their first encounter with Frog.
«Sell?» she must have thought. «Oh, I’ll do better than
just sell! I’ll have a long life, travel the world,
and since I bear the name of an animal that has made an art
of transformation, I’ll change outfits, experiment with
materials, be adventurous with colors, and become the very
icon of those slightly off-kilter proportions that Piero
Lissoni mentions whenever people ask him about me».
So here we are now, celebrating Frog’s thirtieth
birthday with her.
She made her debut in 1995 in her Absolute Candour woven
version, and soon thereafter split into three in an eccentric
prototype, only to reappear unexpectedly clad, variously,
in leather or felt. Weaving is in her DNA – strictly
artisanal – so she has tried it with profiles in leather,
PVC, hemp rope, and cellulose cord, in two-or four-strand
versions.
She has embraced supreme softness with quilted padding
in leather or fabric. For her twentieth anniversary,
she went ultralight with a carbon fiber frame and polyester
weave. She discovered the joys of relaxation and gave birth
to Frog Lounge, for both indoor and outdoor living.
And for her anniversary, with thicker profiles, she declares
her womanly strength, highlighting her aluminum frame.
All the while, she has graced museums and theaters, inspired
both emerging and renowned artists, while her creator
has amassed awards left and right.
But most importantly, she has found her way into countless
homes, hotels, offices, villas, boutiques, apartments,
galleries, and showrooms, in the company of women,
men, teenagers, children, animals, and plants, as told
in the thirty stories gathered here.
As for the future? She says she’ll think about it – she’s
in no hurry.
