Malchiostro Chapel,
Cathedral of Saint Peter the Apostle
The aim of this lighting project,
initiated by the Treviso Rotary
Club and overseen by the Studio
Tecnico Ing. Carlo Chiodin and
Arch. Alessandro Chiodin, was
to create a full-scale experience
using a path of light. Right from the
entrance, (the Malchiostro Chapel is
located in front of the side entrance
to the Cathedral of Saint Peter
the Apostle, better known as the
Cathedral of Treviso), the project put
the spotlight on Titian’s magnificent
Annunciation in the chapel where it
is located – which is also frescoed
by Pordenone, and also emphasised
the vestibule and the paintings on
display. Having decided on the
lighting for the altarpiece (described
above), the question of how best
to enhance the architecture and
the artistic heritage of the entire
chapel was then considered. The
large frescoes along the sides of
the chapel are accentuated by the
crossed beams of the Navata_Optus
projectors placed above the cornice.
The niches along the sides of the
altarpiece, frescoed with the full
figures of Saints Peter and Paul,
feature lighting inspired by the
paintings themselves: the saints, in
fact, cast a shadow behind them that
