Quest’anno sono novanta. Novant’anni di esperienze entusiasmanti, progetti,
sogni bellissimi perché sogni realizzati. Novantacinque anni fa la famiglia Meroni
apriva una bottega artigiana di arredi classici nel centro di Arosio, in Brianza, a
un soffio dal lago di Como. Arriva la guerra, il dopoguerra, e nell’euforia della
ricostruzione Angelo Meroni inaugura un negozio a Milano. Il dinamismo della
città più moderna d’Italia lo conquista, sente la sua eleganza, uno stile diverso, e
sente che è importante dialogare con architetti e designer.
Nel 1948 nasce La Sorgente del Mobile, marchio di riferi-
mento nella storia del design italiano, e il suo successo spin-
ge Luigi ed Enrico, figli del fondatore Angelo Meroni, a cam-
biare passo e a scegliere la produzione industriale. L’anno,
il 1969, è propizio alla conquista di grandi spazi. Il progetto
della nuova sede è affidato ad Angelo Mangiarotti, una delle
figure più originali e autorevoli dell’architettura e del design
del Novecento.
This year marks ninety years. Ninety years of exciting experiences, projects, and
dreams, beautiful dreams, because they have come true. Ninety-five years ago,
the Meroni family opened a small artisan workshop crafting classic furniture in
the center of Arosio, in Brianza, just a stone’s throw from Lake Como. Then came
the war, followed by reconstruction, and in the euphoria of that moment, Angelo
Meroni opened a shop in Milan. The dynamism of Italy’s most modern city cap-
tivated him; he felt its elegance, its distinct style, and sensed the importance of
opening a dialogue with architects and designers.
In 1948, La Sorgente del Mobile was born, a brand that would
become a cornerstone in the history of Italian design. Its suc-
cess encouraged Luigi and Enrico, sons of Angelo Meroni, to
take a new step forward: the leap into industrial production.
The year was 1969, a moment ripe for conquering new hori-
zons. The design of the new headquarters was entrusted to
Angelo Mangiarotti, one of the most visionary and respected
figures in 20th century architecture and design.
