“When it came to the material I wanted
something monolithic and statuesque so
we looked at a lot of stone and eventually
decided on Carrara marble. It’s a material
we have used previously in the past ten
years and a material we have become
very known for so it felt right to revisit
it. The natural veining of the Carrara
was also important to the design and I
wanted to use this to create some softness
to the angular silhouette. The piece has a
traditional grandfather clock time piece
mechanism which would usually have
two weights. We modified and adapted
the mechanism in our .............
...............factory in Bow, East
London, to work with just one central
weight which mirrors the contours of the
inner clock chamber. The weight, hands
and pendulum are all handmade from
polished solid brass and the spherical
shape of the pendulum is juxtaposed with
the triangular prism of the weight. For
the brassware I wanted to include themes
I’ve explored in recent collections around
balance, form and pivots and the brass is
again a material I have worked with on
collections over the past ten years. This
design is incredibly special to me and its
something I’m very proud of.”
