In the early 1900’s architect and
engineer Peder Vilhelm Jensen
Klint, hand-folded a paper
cross pleated lampshade
with a collar and straight pleats
to fit the design of his glass top
petroleum stoneware lamp.
He designed the shade to diffuse
and direct the bright light of the flame,
using the ingenious collar, to safely fit
the shade away from the hot glass.

The Klint family helped to turn a
pleating hobby into a business.
P.V. Jensen’s son Tage Klint
founded the LE KLINT company
in 1943. Kaare Klint created the
company’s logo, made the original
shop furnishings and some
lighting designs which are still
in our collection today. When
Jan Klint took over, he not only
cultivated the company into the
export markets but made a
foundation to protect the future
of the company before he died.
