Designer and Art Director
of Lasvit Maxim Velčovský
created the Memento
Mori light sculpture.
Velčovský is known
for his experimentation
and exploration into
design, and rebellion
against convention.
Memento Mori creates
a new context for the
well-known adage,
so that it isn’t solely
a reflection of mortality,
but rather of perpetuity,
as craft is passed on from
generation to generation.
The sculpture consists
of hundreds of bones,
where the author
combines different
production approaches;
some bones are created
in a press technique,
whereas others are
modelled by the most
skilled carftsmen in
the Czech Republic.
Memento Mori is distinct
in its concept, artistry
and vision. It challenges
guests to reflect upon it,
and perhaps even upon
existence as a whole.
