Yakisugi celebrates the ancient Japanese craft of charring wood for preservation, creating harmony
between destruction and creation. The result is a luminous sculpture that feels as if it were shaped
by nature’s own hand. The Japanese architect Kengo Kuma brings Yakisugi to life, seamlessly merg-
ing traditional aesthetics with modern design.
Through a distinctive process, molten glass is poured into wooden molds, capturing the intricate
texture of charred wood as it burns away. Yakisugi evokes a quiet elegance—the lighted objects
become a gentle reminder of resilience and renewal.
