Over the last years, library interior designers have introduced strong
colour into schemes, not only on soft furnishings but on bookcases
and bookshelves, moving away from the traditional wood finishes that
contributed to an atmosphere of formality. These days the importance
of reading for pleasure is not only recognised but celebrated and
library services are reflecting this with a new confidence in dynamic
and buzzing spaces. Finding a balance between creating a vibrant
colour scheme with broad appeal but which will not feel dated two
or three years down the line is important. At Opening the Book we
work with classic colour theory to create schemes that are appropria-
te to the building and not what’s currently on trend.
