DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) is a digital lighting protocol mainly used for ambient lighting in larger buildings, such as offices,
museums and hospitals.
It is a very flexible system that can control both simple systems with a single fixture and advanced systems with several groups of fixtures.
There is a free choice of connection (parallel, star, series, etc.); the signal is transmitted via two ordinary cables, and there are no polarities.
A maximum of 64 devices can be controlled by the same controller.
The DALI protocol is used when it is necessary to be able to set different light groups at different brightness levels.
It is a two-way system: the controlled lighting group provides feedback on its status, such as the brightness level, to the DALI master controller.
This two-way communication can also be used to signal malfunctions.
