For their renewed restaurant, they chose kreon tools of
light. We gathered around the table with chef Bert Meewis,
interior designer Stefanie Coninx from Peer and kreon lighting
consultants Carol Pareit and Daan Van den Branden to review
the construction process, the creative interpretation, as well as
the selection of the appropriate lighting.
Interview with
Bert Meeuwis
of Restaurant
Slagmolen
Bert Meeuwis: “When we
decided a few years ago that we
wanted to expand, we quickly
found the right partners. We
had already worked with interior
designer Stefanie Coninx in the
past. She knows our tastes and
needs very little input from us
before she gets started. kreon
was no stranger to us either.
You can find kreon lighting in
our ballroom as well as in our
guesthouse.”
Stefanie Coninx: “Indeed,
our collaboration went
smoothly once again, thanks
to the mutual trust and open
communication between us.
Starting a dialogue, sparring
with each other and maintaining
continuous communication.
Bert and Karlijn had a clear
idea about the feeling that they
wanted to convey to their guests
and we were therefore able to
collaboratively shape the new
volume together.”
Bert Meeuwis: “Typically, during
construction, there is little
respect for deadlines as well
as budgets, but this was not an
option for us. We had to reopen
in March, since we had already
received a large number of
reservations. We really didn’t
want to cancel those. In the
intervening period, we had been
cooking at two locations: lunch
on the premises of Essers’ and
back here in the evenings. We
had our hands full in any case,
and to add to that, there was
site planning, among other
things. I don’t miss it though
(laughs).”
Stefanie Coninx: “That’s correct,
the delivery had to be made
within a very clear deadline.
Deviating from it was not an
option. Furthermore, there was
already a shortage of materials
as well as a large number of
delivery problems throughout
the building sector during this
period. Thanks to a proactive
approach and an early start,
we were able to fully meet
