Tunable White
The dynamic feature of the tunable white system
tries to address this risk and allows users to
automatically mimic daylight patterns by adjusting
color temperature and brightness levels with respect
to the time of day. Being able to mimic the natural
cycle of daylight in our indoor environments can help
support wakefulness and greater wellbeing of the
occupants.
The tunable white lighting system is one such
unique solution that offers schools, offices, retailers
and hospitals greater flexibility with the ability to
easily change LED intensities and correlated color
temperatures (CCT) from warm white (2700K) all the
way to cool white (6500K).
Setting the mood
For other applications where mood settings with
lighting is considered valuable, the scene set
feature within the tunable white system provides
a combination of pre-programmed settings that
instantly set the scene for room ambiance to support
the next scheduled task or spontaneous activity.
For example, for functional activities, lighting can
be adjusted to cooler temperatures and higher
intensities to support concentration and focus.
For activities requiring creativity and cooperation,
lighting can be adjusted to warmer temperatures and
lower intensities. Similarly, in a school environment,
with a simple touch of a button, teachers can activate
one of the presets and can easily change the lighting
depending on the atmosphere in the class – be it a
testing session or usual teaching sessions.
Improve satisfaction
There is enough evidence available through various
research studies to support that giving people the
ability to personalize their lighting setup helps to
improve their satisfaction levels. The flexibility within
this system allows occupants to not only choose their
preferred color temperature but also allows them to
tweak the brightness levels to suit their comfort level.
In addition, the controls backbone can be extended
to provide simple energy savings options like
daylight harvesting and occupancy sensing and can
also integrate with luminaires or with other building
systems such as heating, ventilation and cooling
for driving overall building efficiency performance
parameters. With the new tunable white system it
is now possible to simulate some of the benefits of
natural light in an indoor space for your general
wellbeing.
