Un materiale che attraversa i secoli, figlio dell’acqua e
del suo lento dinamismo, il travertino è capace di tuffarsi
disinvoltamente nell’era moderna. Mies van der Rohe nel 1929
lo scelse per creare il podio su quale poggiava il Padiglione
tedesco di Barcellona e Richard Meier negli anni Novanta optò
per la sua versatilità nel realizzare il Getty Center Museum
di Los Angeles. Ma gli esempi d’impiego del travertino sono
innumerevoli, dall’antichità fino ai tempi moderni.
A material that spans the centuries, born from water and its
slow, dynamic movement, travertine is able to dive effortlessly
into the modern era. In 1929, Mies van der Rohe selected it to
create the podium of the iconic German Pavilion in Barcelona.
Decades later, in the 1990s, Richard Meier harnessed its
versatility to construct the Getty Center Museum in Los
Angeles. Countless examples of the use of travertine can be
found throughout history, from antiquity to the present day.
