GOBI
On a trip to Arizona, I was fascinated by the peculiar shape
of the cactus plant amidst the red desert sand. I wanted to
capture this beautifully barren landscape in a single design.
This gave inspiration to the Gobi collection. Layers of steel
are hammered by hand into the form of a cactus. Rich, earthly,
and random patterns are embossed on its surface. The colors
of the desert are reflected in its warm brown and copper tones;
and the use of glass mimics the mirage of water in the horizon.
The Gobi—quirky, but not spiky; part fantasy, sculpture,
and furniture. No one piece is ever alike.
