AVOTAN® A new, ecological, sustainable and circular tanning process. Italy is one of the world’s largest
producers of leather goods and the world’s second largest producer of olive oil. Olive oil production
generates oil vegetation water as a waste product. This waste product, however, contains substances
that are highly valuable for the tanning industry: phenols and polyphenolic compounds with an
effective antimicrobial and phytotoxic action, antioxidants and tanning agents. In this way, two food
industry waste products can be used to create a valuable, long-lasting, ecologically sustainable and
circular product. Unlike other vegetable tanning solutions, this Avotan uses no natural resources, does
not contribute to deforestation, and uses existing waste that would otherwise have to be disposed of.
