The past can offer a surplus value to the present,
just like wrinkles on somebody’s face
telling to everybody one’s personal story and passions.
Life is a lamp with a taste of retro
and a bit of nostalgic touch
basically reconsidered with a sharp look
at contemporary trends.
Matteo Ugolini inspired himself while designing Life on one-time chandeliers covered with fabric and suggests a suspended lamp with a clear nostalgic taste of retro by using at once ground-breaking technologies.
A torn up and processed fabric with an appeal of vintage is a result of an industrial process generally used in fashion industry. At first fabric is dyed and laser-cut, in order to obtain a certain pattern specifically designed for Karman and then a hand-woven process achieving a material breach and patching here and there. Finally the fabric is washed with a stone-wash process and sprinkled with a special pigment conveying a kind of “second-hand” effect.
The fabric is therefore treated so that it looks somehow used and experienced conveying the sensation of owing something familiar although brand new and creating a warm and welcoming lighting atmosphere, thanks to its amber brown colour.
In a consistent Karman-style Life is a product with an old-time flair and at once bearing a definitely modern taste with traditional shapes reconsidered with a look at contemporary trends.
