Designs usually begin with Fu’s hand-drawn conceptual sketches,
shaping a sensuous fusion of form and materiality, before proceeding
to a detailed design stage.
This same personal attention to detail throughout the design process
is apparent across the breadth of his work, which has won increasing
recognition with numerous awards. In 2016, he was named Designer
of the Year for Maison & Objet Asia and also honored in Wallpaper*s
list of Top 20 Interior Designers. Recently, his designs for Kerry Hotel
were awarded Ahead Asia’s Best Urban Hotel and Best Bar 2018.
Fu’s most recent unique design collaboration was his Ribbon Dance
creation for Louis Vuitton’s Objets Nomades Collection. 2019 marks
the launch of his exclusive Rock Garden dining and lounge collection
for JANUS et Cie.
In 2015, he successfully launched the André Fu Living (AFL) lifestyle
brand with a series of products including a collection of original
urban-inspired handmade carpets for Tai Ping, an artisanal room scent
formulated by the cult perfumer Julian Bedel in collaboration with Fu,
and modernist TAC/TILE lighting in collaboration with Czech lighting
manufacturer Lasvit. 2019 will see a new phase for AFL with a holistic
lifestyle offering to unveil.
“I enjoy working on projects across different scales, moving from one
realm to the next,” Fu explains. Each reflects the hallmarks of his
signature modern style with simple, natural materials and textures,
and an unmistakable understated elegance.
