EMBELLISHMENTS
BUTTERFLY CORNERS
Butterfly corners are an extra
detail added to flanges. They are
characterized by a small pleat
in the corner, giving the corner a
more tailored look.
WELT/MINI WELT
Welt and mini welt are edge
embellishments that can be used
on both cushions and toss pillows.
They consist of a long strip of fabric
wrapped around a cord.
FLANGE/MINI FLANGE/
KYOTO FLANGE
Flange, mini flange and Kyoto
flange are edge embellishments
that can be used on both cushions
and toss pillows. They consist of
a long strip of fabric folded and
creased to form a flat flap of fabric.
BELT STITCH
The belt stitch is an edge
embellishment that is only available
for knife edge cushions. It is a stitch
that is applied 1/2" from the edge
of a knife edge cushion, creating
the appearance of a flap of fabric
around the edges of the cushion.
BASEBALL STITCH
The baseball stitch is an embellishment
available for both cushions and
toss pillows. It consists of a piece of
reinforcing seam tape sewn to the inside
of the cushion/pillow cover with two
lines of sewing—one on each side of the
seam. This creates a unique aesthetic as
well as considerable reinforcement for
the seams it is applied to.
TOP STITCH
The top stitch is an embellishment
available for boxed cushions. It
is a line of stitching added to the
boxing of the cushion toward the
top edge, tacking the inside hem
to the boxing. This creates greater
strength in that seam, as well as a
beautiful aesthetic detail.
WHIP STITCH
The whip stitch is an edge
embellishment primarily used on
knife edge cushions. The whip
stitch consists of threads being
pulled over the edge of the two
sides of the knife edge cushion it is
applied to, creating a flange-like
appearance that is wrapped in
thread.
JANUS TACK
The JANUS tack is an edge
embellishment that is applied 1/4"
from the seams of a cushion or toss
pillow. JANUS tack is a skip stitch
used to accent a cushion at the
edge. Color must be specified at
the time of ordering.
BLIND TUFTING
Blind tufting is an embellishment that
can be added to cushions or toss
pillows. It consists of a stitch in the
material sewn to a cord and tacked
to an anchor either inside the cushion
or to a stitch on the other side of
the cushion. This creates a cushion
that cannot have its cushion cover
removed.
COVERED BUTTON
The covered button is an embellishment
that can be added to both cushions and
toss pillows. It consists of a small button
"upholstered" in a fabric of the client’s
choice with some limitations. The button is
then applied to the cushion by piercing the
finished cushion and attaching the end of
a cord to another similarly "upholstered"
button. This creates a cushion that cannot
have its cushion cover removed.
GUAVA STITCH
Guava stitch is an edge embellishment
available for both cushions and toss
pillows. It consists of a stitch 1/8” from
the seam along the entire cushion.
RUSH STITCH
Rush stitch is an edge embellishment
available for both cushions and toss
pillows. The Rush stitch is a special
embroidery stitch added to the edge
of a cushion, usually on the face.
