Penelope is a chair of minimalist elegance from the young designer, Alessandro Masturzo, winner in 2011 of the first edition of the Infiniti Design De-contest.
Intentionally essential, it is composed of a beech wood structure embellished with visible studs and nuts - "mechanical quirks", as the designer defines them - and by inserts of press-formed aluminium which, when placed on the armrests and backrest, connect and complement the chair.
The marriage of different materials highlights the structural tensions of Penelope, while its particular “cockpit" structure draws attention to the seat as the centrepiece of the project, just as the cockpit is the centre of the community aboard a sailing boat.
For an even more comfortable chair, Penelope is also available with an upholstered seat and offers many options both in regard to the to the fabric and in the choice of colour.
Thoughtful and composed, Penelope knows how to wait for the right moment to explode into a rainbow of joyful and light colours.
