Il Mappamondo o Globo è una rappresentazione della terra o del cielo
che viene riportata su una superficie sferica; la sua origine è strettamente
legata all’astronomia ed alle sfere armillari.
Il più antico globo terrestre risale al 1492 l’anno della scoperta dell’america;
uno dei più famosi costruttori di globi del XVII secolo fu il geografo e carto-
grafo Frate Vincenzo Coronelli che nel 1683 realizzò diversi globi che furono
destinati a Re Sole - Luigi XIV e vennero posti nella Reggia di Versailles.
Dapprima strumenti di studio e insegnamento ben presto i globi diventarono
veri e propri oggetti ornamentali.
Il design italiano è un fenomeno unico e sempre attuale per la sua dinamicità
e durata nel tempo.
Il supporto è in metacrilato trasparente ad alta densità e purezza, la minute-
ria è in ottone cromato, la base e in MDF laccata. Il taglio e l’incisione sono
eseguiti con strumenti ad alta tecnologia computerizzata.
La grafica riguardante il mappale è una sintesi del nostro globo e quindi non
può essere utilizzato come strumento didattico.
The Globe is a representation of the Earth or sky transferred on a spherical
surface. Its origin is strictly connected to astronomy and to armillary spheres.
The most ancient terrestrial globe dates back to 1492, the year of America’s
discovery. One of the most famous globe builder of XVII century was the geo-
grapher and cartographer friar Vincenzo Coronelli who realized in 1683 different
globes destined to the Sun-King – Louis XIV and exposed in the Palace of Versail-
les. First the globes were instruments used for study and teaching but soon they
became real ornamental objects.
The Italian design is a unique phenomenon and always current due to its dyna-
mism and lasting in time.
The base is created in transparent methacrylate. The motion work is chromium-
plated, the base is of lacquered MDF. The cut and engraving is carried out with
computerized high-tech devices.
The graphic of the map is a synthesis of our globe and therefore cannot be used
for teaching purposes.
